What we mine is a common wealth. It belongs to the country before it belongs to us, and the terms we are given are temporary. That is the frame for everything below.

Mining changes land. That is the nature of the work, and no amount of language alters it. What we can decide is how the change is managed, how it is measured, and what is left behind when we finish.

Beyond compliance

Compliance is the floor, not the standard. Every Marridale site operates to one internal standard, whichever jurisdiction it sits in, and where local requirements are lighter than that standard, the standard applies anyway.

Water

Water is returned to catchment and monitored continuously at five independent points at Ferrier Creek, and at equivalent points elsewhere. Results are published quarterly, including results that fall outside our licence range. We have published every exceedance recorded since 2019.

Land

Rehabilitation is planned before the first blast and carried out progressively, not deferred to closure. Since 2009, 8,600 hectares have been returned to a stable landform, assessed against completion criteria agreed with each regulator.

Rehabilitation is a long undertaking. Land assessed as stable is not land restored to what it was, and we do not claim otherwise.

Communities

We hire locally, buy locally, and fund locally. Ninety-four per cent of supplier spend in FY26 went to businesses within our host regions. Where operations affect a community directly, agreements are negotiated with that community and reviewed annually.
